During the Christmas holidays, you can go ice skating at Natuurmuseum Fryslân. It’s warm and cosy — and there’s koek & zopie too! (traditional Dutch cake and hot drink).

A great success in previous years and therefore back again this year: during the Christmas holidays, you can go ice skating at Natuurmuseum Fryslân! A special indoor ice rink has been installed in the covered atrium just for the occasion. In the dark days leading up to Christmas, it’s warm and cosy, with Christmas music playing — and of course koek-en-zopie.
The ice rink is intended for children. You don’t need to bring your own skates; skates are available in all sizes. Wearing a hat and gloves is mandatory.
You can go skating at the museum from 20 December 2025 through 4 January 2026.
Be sure to also visit Mummy Mysteries, an exhibition about animal mummies from ancient Egypt as well as animal mummies from Fryslân — exciting and fascinating!
We are open on Boxing Day. On 24 and 31 December we close at 4.00 pm; on 25 December and 1 January the museum is closed. Apart from the regular admission ticket, there are no additional costs for using the ice rink.
