On 1 July, the day on which we commemorate and celebrate the abolition of slavery during Keti Koti, Leeuwardentour takes you on a special walk through Leeuwarden, following traces of the city’s history of slavery. The route takes in notable sites such as the Nieuwe Stadsweeshuis, the Princessehof and the Stadhouderlijk Hof. But lesser-known stories are also covered, such as the former homes of slave owners and plantation managers like Bruijnsvelt (Bagijnestraat 52), Nering Bögel (Grote Kerkstraat 7), Couperus (Voorstreek 37) and Hajonides van der Meulen (Voorstreek 13)

You can also book this walk for your own group. For example, with your family or a group of friends on a date that suits you.
