On Saturday 31 October 2026, the second edition of Buuten Kuier will take place. This walking event takes participants through the unique countryside to the east of Leeuwarden, with the Groene Ster and Grote Wielen forming key parts of the route.
Participants can choose between a 12 or 20-kilometre walk. Along the way, paved and unpaved paths alternate as you make your way through a varied landscape of water, woodland, reed beds and grasslands. In autumn, the area is particularly colourful.
Buuten Kuier is more than just a walk through nature. The route also takes you past – and sometimes even through – the premises of various local businesses. This gives participants a unique behind-the-scenes glimpse and the chance to discover places they wouldn’t normally get to see.
The walk is suitable for both keen walkers and anyone who simply fancies an active and surprising day outdoors. Along the way, there are several places where you can buy coffee or tea, and toilets are available at various locations. Your ticket also includes one cup of coffee or tea from one of the Buuten partners.
