Starting point: TOP IJlst
This lovely route begins at the TOP (Tourist Transfer Point) in IJlst. IJlst is a charming Eleven Cities town, known for its history of shipbuilding and the characteristic waterside gardens (overtuinen). The compact town centre is full of history, with historic buildings, small bridges and the iconic sawmill De Rat.
Ruterpolder
From IJlst you sail a short loop around the reclaimed nature reserve De Ruterpolder. It’s a small-scale natural area with reed beds, wetland zones and open grasslands. It’s peaceful and quiet, and an important habitat for meadow birds.

IJlst (or Drylts in Frisian) is not only one of the famous 11 cities, but also a 'wood city'. For many years, tree trunks were processed here by the legendary wood trading companies Oppedijk and S.O. de Vries.
