Heerenveen - Aldeboarn | Koningspad XL Hiking Trail Network: Section 12

This route takes you from Heerenveen, the principal town in the municipality of Heerenveen, to the village of Aldeboarn, which was once the main village in the De Boarn stream valley. Aldeboarn was strategically situated on the banks of the De Boarn river and dates back to the early Middle Ages. Heerenveen was originally established as a base for a commercial peat mining operation and played an important role supplying fuel to Utrecht and Holland. There is an old saying, ‘Zonder Friese turf geen Gouden Eeuw’ – without Frisian turf, the Dutch would not have had a Golden Age.

Crackstate

De Crackstate is één van de mooist gebouwen van Heerenveen en werd in 1648 gebouwd in opdracht van grietman Johannes Crack.

Terbandsterschans

De Terbandsterschans werd in 1580 aangelegd als onderdeel van de Friese waterlinie. In 2018 is er op deze plek een kunstwerk geplaatst ter nagedachtenis aan een verdedigingswerk.

Terbandster Tsjerke Terband

In 1843 kreeg de Terbandster tsjerke zijn huidige neoclassistische kerkvorm met sierlijke rondbogen en pilasters. Voorheen werd de kerk Rotondekerk genoemd, vanwege de ligging aan een rotonde bij de snelweg, het klaverblad bij Heerenveen.

Klokkenstoel Luinjeberd

In Luinjeberd werd al voor 1300 een klooster gesticht. Het moest wegens hoog water enkele keren verhuizen. Mariënbosch streek uiteindelijk neer naast de huidige begraafplaats van Luinjeberd, waar nu alleen nog een dubbele klokkenstoel staat.

De Deelen Nature Reserve

The De Deelen nature reserve was a peat mining area. Today the land is a mosaic of water, reed beds, patches of swamp forest and narrow strips of grassland. This wetland area is home to many species of birds. There is also unique industrial heritage here.

Wandelknooppunten: Start 71. Vanaf het station eerst rechtdoor, dan over de brug RA over de Fok en LA naar de kerk en een rondje om het gemeentehuis Crackstate. Vervolgens op de grote weg LA over de brug naar - 77 - 90 - 14 - 26 - 28 - 27 - 22 - 23 - 20 - op de P.G. Otterweg RA naar de Deelenweg, dan LA 75 - 71 - 46 - 41 - 13 - 38.
