This section of the Bonifatius Kloosterpad Monastery Route leads through the beautiful hedgerow and woodland landscape of the Noardlike Fryske Wâlden National Landscape conservation area.

You walk through an area where peat was cut from raised bogs. Important monasteries founded daughter houses here to obtain peat and farm the land.

Near the village of Bakkeveen there was a daughter house with a chapel and churchyard. This was where the devout hermit Dodo van Haske lived.

Later he moved to the village of Haskerdijken where he died when his dilapidated hermitage collapsed, burying him beneath rubble. After his death he was declared a saint. Kapelle van Haskerdijken church, which now stands on the site where he lived, is part of the Jabikspaad pilgrimage route in Friesland.
