Katlijk Roaming Route
If you want to explore the village of Katlijk, be sure to visit the bell tower and the ancient little church built in 1525. At the end of the year, the village observes the tradition of Sint Thomasluiden or ‘Saint Thomas bell ringing’. This age-old tradition, which involves ringing the bells almost continuously at the end of the year, is believed to ward off evil spirits.
If you want to enjoy the quiet of nature, you have come to the right place. The Katlijker Schar nature reserve and Katlijkerheide heath are the two most well-known areas of the local countryside. But there are also other forests and heaths near Katlijk that are well worth a visit.
On this cycling route you follow the walking route network junctions. A chance to get off the beaten track and really roam the Frisian landscape.
