Wijnjewoude - Lippenhuizen | Section 7 of the Bonifatius Kloosterpad Monastery Route

This section of the Bonifatius Kloosterpad Monastery Route runs along the south bank of the Koningsdiep river, an ancient river that used to flow into the former Middelzee estuary. This walk leads across southeast Friesland
from the village of Wijnjewoude to the village of Lippenhuizen. Along the way you pass small hamlets with international names such as Petersburg and Moskou (Moscow)
and several places of worship, like the magnificently situated church in the village of Duurswoude at the end of Section 6. The last church you come to is Piterkerk church in the village of Lippenhuizen. It is possible to spend the night here.

After the village of Wijnjewoude you pass through the heath and woodland of the Kapellepôlle nature reserve, where there was once a St Boniface Chapel that is said to have had a bell with a gold clapper.

Duurswouderheide
Natuurgebied Duurswouderheide is een groot heidegebied in Zuidoost Friesland dat wordt beheerd door Staatsbosbeheer.
Het Wijnjeterperschar
Het Wijnjeterperschar werd eeuwenlang gebruikt door de boeren van Wynjeterp. Het is een eeuwenoud, kleinschalig landschap van houtwallen, heide en stromende beken, dat nu beheerd wordt als natuurgebied.
Piterkerk Lippenhuizen
De Piterkerk is een karakteristieke en onlangs geheel gerestaureerde kerk in het centrum van Lippenhuizen. In de middeleeuwen verrees de kerk op een hoogveenpakket van enkele meters dik dat elders in het dorp verdwenen is.
