The village of Kimswerd originated around a terp. When you are here, you should definitely pay a visit to the statue of Grutte Pier. According to folklore, this famous and infamous resident was born in this village around 1480.
Grutte Pier was the freedom fighter of Friesland and fought against various rulers. He is known for his saying: "Bûter, brea en griene tsiis, wat dat net sizze kin, is gjin oprjochte Fries."
