Kuiertocht Meilahuizen | Easterein

In the southeast of Easterein lies one of the oldest reclaimed areas in Friesland: the Mother Polders. A thousand years ago, residents here constructed the first waterworks. The route leads you along some of these ancient dikes. Back in the village, you'll see the Martinikerk standing tall on the terp.

A "kuiertocht" is a short walking route. So, it probably won't surprise you that in Frisian, "wandelen" translates to "kuierje". You can easily combine a leisurely stroll with an activity in the area, or choose to embark on another leisurely stroll. An overview of all leisurely strolls can be found here.

Note: for the most scenic route, first walk around the church in a clockwise direction. From the church, enter the street 'De Streek'. You'll find this street to the right of the house at Tsjerkebuorren 31. Follow this street until you reach a narrow shell path between the water. At the end of this path, turn left and continue the route towards node 36.

The Martinikerk Easterein

The Martinikerk is a church built in the 14th century, located on a moated elevation. In the middle of the 11th century, a tuffstone predecessor was built. The church hall is available for rent. You can also book a guided tour.
