Take a look
Since 1993, the A32 motorway has passed under the Mid-Fryslân Aqueduct near Grou, while the Prinses Margriet Canal remains open to shipping. The aqueduct forms an important part of the motorway between Heerenveen and Leeuwarden and is a key link in the shipping route between Lemmer and Delfzijl. In addition to the main 2x2 lane passage on the A32, there is a separate underpass on the east side for slow traffic, such as cyclists and pedestrians, between Akkrum and Grou. On the south side of the canal, the local road Leppedyk runs over the aqueduct. This road offers a unique view of the Prinses Margriet Canal and the A32 motorway. Immediately to the west of the aqueduct is the Zwolle–Leeuwarden railway line, which crosses the canal via a swing bridge. The aqueduct is accessible 24 hours a day to road traffic, slow traffic and shipping.
