The shipyard is the place to be for restoration of old ships and all the carpentry required on wooden ships. The Carpentry shed, which is part of the shipyard, is the oldest of its type in western Europe. The Blazerhaven functions as a museum harbour. It is home to numerous sailing, authentic fishing ships dating from the first half of the previous century.
Also in the harbour is a sailing monument dating from 1909, namely the Zuiderzee botter ship EB23. This Botter type of oak wood fishing ship was predominantly used for fishing on the Zuiderzee in the first half of the 20th century. Nowadays, the ship is used for recreational purposes. It has retained its authenticity over the years, and therefore nowadays has the official national status of a Sailing Monument (RVEN no. 500). Sailing this type of ship requires the strength of traditional fishermen to hoist the sails and leeboards. All the restoration work on the ship has been carried out at De Hoop shipyard in Workum in recent years. During the summer months, you have the option of embarking on this robust ship with the 'Foundation for preservation of historic fishing ships', to experience the adventurous fishing life of years gone by.
