The hotel has a strong connection with art and history. In the 18th century, doctor Simon Stinstra and his wife Anna Braam collected more than 200 artworks here. Artists and art dealers Hendrikus and Nicolaas Baur also lived and worked at this location in the 18th and 19th centuries.
