The area around Koopmansbosje in Hurdegaryp tells an important part of the village’s story. Centuries ago, an earlier part of Hurdegaryp was located here, including the former village church. Because of subsidence and changes in the landscape, the village gradually shifted further north, where the current church was built in 1711.
In later years, this area continued to change. The land was used for farming, passed through the hands of different owners and eventually became known as Koopmansbosje. In the 1970s, the site took on a recreational role and was transformed into an ice rink, water park and walking area. Today, it is a green and familiar place in Hurdegaryp, where history and recreation come together.
