Historic School
Museum Opsterlân was originally built as a public primary school, with the foundation stone laid on 1 September 1887. The building was designed by architect Jacobus Anthonie Meessen, who served as the municipal architect for the Municipality of Opsterland at the time. Classrooms were used for teaching until 1955, but knowledge remains at the heart of the building today—knowledge of the history of Gorredijk and the Municipality of Opsterland.
