Buitenpost (Bûtenpost)

Buitenpost

Buitenpost. The name says it all: this isn't a village that wants to be in the middle of the crowd. Yet, it’s exactly where it needs to be. Halfway between Leeuwarden and Groningen, but with the charm of a place that isn't trying to be anything else. And that’s its strength.

Take a look

What will you find here? A tropical surprise at De Kruidhof Botanical Garden, where the air smells of rosemary, thyme, and a hint of 'hey, what on earth is growing there?' – it’s the largest herb garden in the Netherlands, by the way. Stubbornly its own thing.

But Buitenpost is more than just greenery. It’s a place where you can zoom in by train and step right out into the countryside. Where you can cycle along winding paths, passing farms where the cows actually acknowledge you when you say hello. And yes, we really do that here.

The village is alive. Not loudly, but steadily. It’s a mix of that local village feel and a defiant entrepreneurial spirit. Market on Friday, fries on Saturday, village festivals like it’s 1995 – everything in balance.
