The church of Goingarijp is once again a gem in the Frisian landscape.
In a beautiful spot by the water of the Goingarijpster ponds - in the middle of Friesland - stands this church with a detached bell tower. This makes the church special, although the choice for a bell tower in previous centuries often didn't bode well: it usually had to do with a lack of funds.
The stained glass windows from 1770 - one of which bears the coats of arms of the last stadtholder, Prince Willem V - are also a sight for the many watersports tourists who visit this church.
The church was built around 1770 on the foundations of the old Romanesque church. Since 1978, the church and bell tower of Goingarijp have been transferred to the Foundation Alde Fryske Tsjerken, and the local committee is responsible for its management. This committee still regularly rents out the building to the local Protestant congregation and for funeral and wedding services.
