Take a look
For centuries, Bennema State was a special place in Hurdegaryp. The country house was founded in the seventeenth century and grew into a well-known estate with canals, ponds, gardens and stately trees. Over the years, Bennema State was home to different residents, from prominent families and wealthy landowners to doctors, and later it became a residential care location for older people. In that way, this place reflects a large part of the village’s history.
Although the original estate eventually disappeared, the name Bennema State has remained. The garden has also always been an important part of the site. It was once laid out to a design by landscape architect Gerrit Vlaskamp and was redesigned in 2017 with attention to its historic character. In this way, the story of Bennema State still lives on here today.
