After two successful previous editions, Simeon ten Holt’s Canto Ostinato returns once again this year. This time, not inside the familiar barn, but out in the open air: surrounded by nature near the Frisian village of Jorwert. On Sunday 21 June, pianists Wiebe Kaspers and Johannes Hibma will perform the enchanting, seemingly endless sounds of this beloved work in this special setting.
Listening to Canto Ostinato, you soon lose your sense of time. The wide view across the meadows only deepens that feeling. Lying on a blanket in the grass beside the pond with floating candles, or sitting on a straw bale from the neighbouring farmer, you can simply let yourself be carried along by the repeating patterns of the music. For the musicians too, the sense of time gradually fades into the background as they play.
The concert starts at 8:30 pm and lasts around two hours. From 7:30 pm, you are welcome to arrive, have a drink and find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. After the concert, there will be time to linger in nature with a drink and a bite to eat.
Tickets are available via www.midzomercanto.nl.
After booking, you will receive practical information by email about the exact location, parking and seating options.
“Every time I have performed this piece, it has been a special experience. But performing it outdoors, as night slowly falls, gives Canto Ostinato an extra dimension. It becomes a dialogue with nature itself.”
— Wiebe Kaspers
“Because we perform the piece outside, rather than in the controlled environment of a building, the boundaries between time and space begin to dissolve for me.”
— Johannes Hibma
