Take a look
This was not always the case: in the past 15 years, the graffiti scene in Leeuwarden has undergone major changes. From hastily made tags and pieces that were often regarded as vandalism to beautiful, commissioned murals on public buildings that provide a colourful experience in the streetscape. From illegal to commercial. From anonymous to visible
Joost Overdijk, amateur photographer and ‘Liwadder’ in heart and soul, has photographed all forms of graffiti in his city over the past fifteen years: tags on walls or special places such as lampposts or waste bins, works on electricity boxes in various city districts, graffiti on the now demolished Philips factory, but also large works on a parking garage, elevator shafts of apartment buildings and on the wall of the town hall.
He took the photos out of personal interest. His collection now consists of thousands of photos. A selection was made for the magazine and exhibition, which gives a wonderful picture of the great variety of graffiti works and the impressive development that graffiti has undergone in Leeuwarden.
