FOOD STORIES #6 | From Soil to Spoon – workshop on soil health and fermentation
Leeuwarden
With your hands in the soil and in the sauerkraut
Take a look
FOOD STORIES #6 is a collaboration with Nynke Bakker
What does the soil from your garden, border, or meadow say about its health — and about yours? This evening, we immerse ourselves in the world of bacteria, compost, and fermentation. We’ll begin with a warm bowl of soup and take time to get to know one another.
Then, together with soil expert Nynke Bakker, we’ll examine the earth you’ve brought with you: What does it reveal? And how can you use that knowledge?
To close the evening, we’ll make sauerkraut together — a living example of the power of fermentation. An evening rooted in the soil: nourishing, eye-opening, and hands-on in every sense.
About FOOD STORIES
Food is more than nourishment or taste — it’s a universal language. Every dish tells a story: it reflects culture, ritual, craftsmanship, and personal history. Food can offer comfort, connection, reconciliation, and understanding.
FOOD STORIES is all about the connecting power of sharing a meal. By gathering weekly at the kitchen table and eating together, conversations arise that bridge people and cultures.
Sharing food becomes a way of seeing each other — and truly understanding one another.
This event takes place in the Keuken at Bouwurk, at Oldehoofsterkerkhof in Leeuwarden, Fryslân.
