Southwest Fryslân is, for good reason, a national landscape! Start your ‘expedition’ at the Mar and Klif visitor centre – fun for young and old. Experience the story of the coast with cliffs, the clay area with medieval mounds and dikes, the five picturesque Elfsteden cities, the vast farming landscape, and the charmingly rolling Gaasterland where forest, meadow, and water alternate. More recent are the developments in agriculture. And the history of World War II. Special: in the Visitor Center you will find a small presentation about the V2 rockets, which were launched in 1944 from the Rijsterbos.
