During this cycling tour you will be amazed by the ingenious solutions people came up with in the past. We look at what drove people to this region and how they lived. Even back in the distant past, those who inhabited this part of the country were extremely innovative and enterprising. They cut peat into turf and sold it as fuel. They also built sailing barges known as skûtsjes. Drachten, where the tour starts, is one of the places where skûtsjes are still made. The people who reside here are clearly very inventive. The prevailing mentality in the region is to roll up sleeves and build new things. This cycling tour takes you to several remarkable places where passion, innovation and enterprise are inextricably linked.
