Into the Polder | Cycling Route
A varied cycling route that takes you across what used to be the bottom of the Zuiderzee. Experience subtle height differences in this changing landscape, from the IJsselmeer coast through fields, meadows and orchards, past woodland and into the former Zuiderzee town of Kuinre.
Start this fun route at the parking area of the UNESCO World Heritage Woudagemaal and visit the world’s oldest working steam pumping station while you're there! From here, cycle through the lively town of Lemmer. The waterway through Lemmer is a busy connection between the Frisian Lakes and Lake IJsselmeer.

Next you head toward the polder and cycle straight through the Kuinderbos, a forest planted between 1949 and 1956. It’s home to many different tree species. Since the forest was planted on the former saltwater seabed, you can still find seashell remains between the trees. Tip: park your bike and take a walk through the forest.
And while you're in the area: don’t miss Pantropica (formerly known as De Orchideeën Hoeve) – a tropical jungle park with exotic animals and plants, fun for all ages.
