For example, the spots may lead you to Skrins in De Greidhoek. Marvel from the birdwatching hut in Skrins and spot birds like the lapwing, redshank, and godwit in spring. In the village of Lytsewierrum, there's only one road to take, so no need to stress about choices in this village. Let your thoughts wander as you gaze out over the Snitser Mar. Got some extra time? Consider booking a hot air balloon ride in Joure and experience a real journey above the clouds. At Nannewiid, you can connect with nature and observe colorful plants and birds. In Oudemirdum, stand on the cliff at 6 meters high with a magnificent view over the IJsselmeer. Spot beautiful dragonflies in Wyldemerk. There are more than 40 species here. And visit Laaksum, the smallest fishing harbor in Europe. Take a seat on the pier in Sandfirden and soak in the most beautiful spot in Friesland. Skrins Meadow Bird Reserve
The Skrins meadow bird reserve between the villages of Wommels and Oosterlittens is a popular foraging and roosting spot for many birds. In the spring, the flower-filled grasslands are perfect for nesting.
Lytsewierrum (Lutkewierum)
Visit the terp village of Lytsewierrum, located at the end of a dead-end road. The village has a protected village view.
Sneekermeer
The Sneekermeer (Frisian and official: Snitser Mar) is, of course, known for the Sneekweek, the annual sailing races held on this lake.
The Nannewiid
The Nannewiid, along with the Douwe Pôlle and the Lytse Wiid, is a valuable natural area. Originally, it was a marshy wilderness. It transformed when peat diggers from Giethoorn extracted peat here.
Oudemirdumer Klif (cliff at Oudemirdum)
The cliff at Oudemirdum is 6 metres high. It was formed during the last ice age but one when the land was pushed up by enormous glaciers that advanced from Scandinavia and deposited large boulders in Gaasterland.
Wyldemerk
The Wyldemerk is a nature reserve with an idyllic lake. It is connected to the Slotermeer and the Fluessen.
Sandfirden
Sandfirden, a charming village on the Frisian lakes, a place for peace and nature.
Westhem
Westhem, a small village located along the Hemdijk, featuring a historical church and surrounded by beautiful nature.
Makkumerzuidwaard Nature Reserve
Along the shore of Lake IJsselmeer there are three nature reserves on the sandflats outside the dykes. When Lake IJsselmeer was still the Zuiderzee, these coastal sandflats were flooded by the tides.
