The first part of the Elfstatentocht Country Estate Route leads through Leeuwarden, the capital of Friesland, and some of the little villages north of the city. The Elfstatentocht Country Estate Route is divided into five sections.
This section starts with a stroll through the streets of Leeuwarden, where you will find yourself surrounded by impressive monuments. You can even stay in the palace that once served as the residence of the governor of the city.
The next day you can go on a short bike ride through the area north of the city. The country estates near the rural villages of Cornjum and Jelsum are both absolutely enchanting. You can stroll through the surrounding gardens and may also want to visit the adjacent village churches. The return journey to the capital includes a ferry crossing near the village of Wyns.
