Culinairy Friesland

Meet Friesland on a culinary tour. Discover the flavors of Friesland during this three day trip. Real Frisian crafts that remain since centuries. We take you on a fantastic journey.

Day 1 Frisian craft
We start our journey with a Frisian craft. Friesland is famous for its eel and that is why we are going to smoke eel. Smoking eel above the fire is a culinary highlight you shouldn't miss. And to make it even special we combine this with a flatboat ride. The departure locations are flexible so we can choose where we start, for example the de Alde Feanen National Park. After smoking some eel and a nice flatboat ride we move on to the cheese farm in Tijnje, because what would Friesland be without cheese. Here we get an explanation on how the cheese is made from the  farmer and also see where the cows live,  and of course tasting the cheese. We get dinner at the Hotel Golden Tulip Tjaarda in Oranjewoud. We can also spend the night here.

Day 2 Beerenburg and Beer
We start the day with a visit at the Weduwe Joustra distillery in Sneek. For 150 years and 6 generations the famous Frisian drink Beerenburg is produced in Sneek. While visiting we will get a tour and then a tasting of home-made drink. We continue our day in Leeuwarden. After a lunch in one of the several restaurants we discover Leeuwarden. We go on another kind of city tour, a beer tour. In this way we get to know Leeuwarden on the basis of its several beers. Leeuwarden used to have several breweries and the guide tells us all about the history of those breweries. (No pub tour, but a combination of city walking tour and tasting). The evening we dine in the ‘Eleve' the one Michelin star restaurant of Leeuwarden. Back it goes to our overnight location.

Day 3 Art and wine
We start the morning with visiting the Museum Belvédère in Oranjewoud. After visiting the museum we have a nice lunch in the Grand Café of hotel Oranjewoud. We Continue our journey to the Frysling vineyard. It is the most northerly located vineyard of the Netherlands. Here we will taste a Frisian white wine or sparkling wine and of course we also get an explanation of the owner. Now we are at the end of our culinary journey through Friesland.
