Renowned French artist Olivier Grossetête will be in Leeuwarden with his breathtaking construction project Monumental Constructions from 22 to 26 May. Together with people, a fantastic work of art wiil be built from 1300 cardboard boxes at the Olderhoofsterkerkhof. It promises to be T-H-E eye-catcher of the Fries StraatFestival (FSF) on 25 May. The FSF is extremely pleased to have him.

In the week preceding the FSF, the building will be inspected by means of boxes partly assembled during the so-called 'workshops'. The FSF is looking for enthusiastic 'hands' to assemble these boxes. Anyone from the age of 8 can register. Neighbourhood associations, sports teams, school classes, political parties, senior clubs, Service Clubs, companies, families, groups of friends or as an individual. Everyone can participate! Together we are going to build this unique project and fantastic work of art for Leeuwarden. You can register via:  www.fries-straatfestival.nl.

What is MC? Monumental Constructions (MC) is a participatory construction work in which the community is being invited to build together. It will be a special structure, inspired by buildings of Leeuwarden. The public itself has submitted ideas for this to the organization. On 25 May, during the Fries Street Festival, people from the public are being asked to work together to build this spectacular structure, using only human energy and muscle power, without the use of cranes or machines. The work of art will be taken down together in a 'ritual' on Sunday, 26 May. Prior to this moment, there will be a large picnic at the Oldehoofster Kerkhof (cemetery) starting at 1 pm. Everyone is invited. Don't miss this spectacle!

Participate in this work of art! People, companies and organizations from Leeuwarden or the surrounding area are invited to participate in this major art project. Léonie Dijkema, programme coordinator of the Fries Straatfestival: 'It is a distinct opportunity to be creative, meet other people, collaborate on a unique project and ultimately create something beautiful together for the city of Leeuwarden.'

How does it work? The artwork will be constructed in parts at a location in Leeuwarden from 21 to 24 May. On 25 May, during the Fries StraatFestival, the artwork will be assembled at the Oldehoofsterkerkhof. Only together can this metre-high structure be built! The building will be disassembled together again on Sunday, 26 May. The organization is looking for builders for all these days! Your help makes it possible. You can help for half a day or more, up to a maximum of 6 days. You can register as an individual or as a group via www.fries-straatfestival.nl/monumental-constructions. Please do this before 10 May .
