National Landscape Noardlike Fryske Wâlden
You might stumble over the name, but this national landscape will surely enchant you. Trees, hedges, and hedgerows line the pastures. In between, there are green areas, water, and small wooded areas.
Ice Age ruins
At some point during the Ice Age, ice pushed up from the ground at certain locations, forming a mound. As the ice began to melt, this mound essentially collapsed, leaving behind a crater filled with water. So, if you come across a lake surrounded by a rim in the landscape, chances are you are looking at a pingo ruin.
Alder benches and oak benches
Everywhere, you can see smaller plots where they practice sustainable and environmentally friendly farming. Around the alder benches and oak benches by the pastures, there is a diverse mixture of plants and shrubs growing. This contributes to the necessary biodiversity in this agricultural region. Stop by a farm or a pick-your-own garden for local treats.

Noardlike Fryske Wâlden and water
"Not only farmers and landscapes live in harmony here, but if you come here for sailing, there are sustainable options as well. Starting from Leeuwarden, there is an 'electric-only' sustainable waterway to De Westereen. Of course, you can also navigate it with a stand-up paddleboard or canoe."
