On Texel, you get the holiday feeling with just a 20 minute sail from the mainland! Texel has seven charming villages, six museums and over 30 kilometres of beach.
Texel is the largest of the five Wadden Islands. The island belongs to the province of Noord-Holland and can also be reached from Den Helder. Texel is a fantastic place to bike and has over 140 kilometres of bike paths with beautiful routes where you can bike over the dike along the Wadden Sea, through the villages or through the lovely nature.
Experience and explore
There’s always something to do on Texel. There is the annual ‘tour around Texel’, the biggest catamaran race in the world! In June, there is the annual Culture Month on Texel with loads to do relating to art, music and culture. Culinary Texel takes place every year in September, a month full of local culinary highlights. At the end of this series of events is the Texel Air Show, which takes place every three years. This is a major event with displays from historic and modern aircraft.
TAKE IT EASY
Texel’s stories can be seen in the various museums and visitor centres on the island. For example in Kaap Skil, the beachcomber museum. This is where you can discover everything about beachcombers and the fishing industry. The Ecomare is also a nice place to visit, where you can see seals, porpoises and other marine life up close. Also on the island are an aviation and war museum, shipwreck museum and a cultural history museum.
Texel is the place to go if you want an active holiday. There are countless opportunities for sports and to actively explore the water, nature and the island. Want to go on the water? Then we recommend catamaran sailing or surfing. Want the rush from high altitude? Then opt for a parachute jump from Texel’s airport. There is also indoor and outdoor karting on Texel, with speeds of a whopping 70 km/hr.
