Nij Beets - Olterterp | Koningspad XL Hiking Trail Network: Section 9

(16.2 km)

|

This route starts at the It Damhûs open-air museum, where you can learn all about the history of commercial peat cutting and see living history demonstrations that show how hard life was for the poor peat cutters. You walk past the spot where the old village of Beets once stood and through forests to the villages of Beetsterzwaag and Olterterp. This area served as a summer residence for members of the Frisian nobility and aristocracy. Many of their country estates can still be seen today.

The 14 sections of the Koningspad XL Hiking Trail Network take you past the highlights of the Koningsdiep stream valley. A journey through meadows, heaths and the open landscape of Friesland.
