Tour IJlst | SUP and Canoe Route

Discover IJlst from the water with this SUP route through the historic center of IJlst, and at the same time, get acquainted with the expansive surroundings.

Along the way, you'll see the chimney of Nooitgedagt and paddle along the characteristic overtuinen (over gardens) of IJlst.

Through the Riper Feart and the Soal Sleat, you paddle a round via the Modderige Ryd, the Witte Brekken, and the Zwarte Brekken near Sneek. On the way back, you go through the Nauwe Wimerts and the Tsjerke Sleat, enjoying the peace and space around you.

This route is 10.5 kilometers in total. As a beginner, you paddle at about 3 kilometers per hour, so a one-way trip will take more than 3 hours.

Bridges in Friesland
On this route, you'll encounter several bridges. With a SUP or canoe, you can almost always navigate around them. And if there is an issue with a bridge or culvert, you can step off and navigate around. This route has waterway category DM, where boats with a draft of 1.3 meters and a height of 2.3 meters can navigate. Only the first part over the Eewal has no waterway category, so it's not suitable for sloops or larger boats, but you can bypass that, and then the route can also be covered with an (electric) sloop.
