Cycling route 'Greidhoek' along three nature reserves.

(36.0 km)

This cycling route through the Greidhoek (Frisian Clay Meadow area between Franeker, Leeuwarden, Bolsward, and Sneek) allows you to discover the typical Frisian open meadow landscape. It takes you along three nature reserves managed by Natuurmonumenten: Skrok, Skrins, and the Lionserpolder.

Greidhoek
The Greidhoek is known for its extensive meadow landscape with rich terp (mound) villages. In the past, the Middle Sea used to flow through here. Due to the low-lying land combined with an 'old sea,' it has become a bird paradise, especially for species like the Godwit.

Bird Paradise and Excursions
Along the way, you'll encounter a bird observation hut in the nature reserves Skrok and Skrins. Discover which animal species migrate to this area. To reach the bird observation hut Skrins, you deviate slightly from the normal cycling node network during this route.
