LF Frisian coast and Lauwerszee weekend route
Fancy spending a few days cycling through beautiful scenery? This 117-kilometre route will take you along Friesland’s Wadden Sea coast and through the former Lauwerszee area.
The Frisian coast and Lauwerszee weekend route leads through the varied scenery of the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site and Lauwersmeer National Park. It is also a chance to discover the ancient coastal city of Dokkum.
You can start cycling the route at any junction. Park at one of the Tourist Transfer Points (TOP).
This route is one of the long-distance weekend routes mapped by Landelijk Fietsplatform, a national organisation that promotes recreational cycling. Part of it runs along the LF Coastal Route. Stay at a B&B run by local people or stop at a friendly campsite along the way.

St. Nicholas Church Eastrum (Oostrum)
Near Dokkum, lies the village of Oostrum. On a partially excavated mound you will find this pretty little church with a remarkably low tower. In fact, the 13th century tower is much older than the church itself, which probably dates from the 16th century.
City Brewery and Bonifatius754 Museum
The history of Dokkum beer dates back to the early Middle Ages. After the death of Boniface in 754, monks of the newly founded Boniface Abbey on the town square began brewing Dokkum beer.
Old Town Hall in Dokkum
